As I was thinking about what I’m
going to wear to the singles cruise tomorrow night, I began to remember how I used to be
before I got married. I was a mess. I was needy, insecure and wore my
feelings on my sleeve. As a result, I was easy prey for men. For years.
Whether in a club, grocery shopping or walking down the
street, men could sense that I had low self-esteem. And it wasn't hard to decipher. I was negative, sarcastic and I fell for the first compliment that came my way. Because of that, I attracted dogs; men who
showered me with compliments and said everything I needed to hear. Until they
got the drawers. Then they were gone. Never to be heard from again.
Yeah, I was in my 20s so you can probably blame it on being
young and dumb. But that wasn't the only reason. I wasn't happy. I was lonely.
But I can assure you, this time will be different.
Early this morning, we posted a meme on Instagram that read:
You date at the level of your
self-esteem.
Think about that. If your self-esteem is in the toilet, you’re most likely going to attract assholes, cheaters, manipulators, etc. That’s why I could never
understand women who said there’s no more good men out there. All men are dogs.
That’s bullshit.
You can’t expect the best if you don’t believe
the best for yourself. If you feel confident, you act confidently and you attract the same. It's the law of the universe.
So, if you’re not feeling your best and can’t go
out tomorrow night with a smile on your face and a warm, friendly disposition,
you should probably stay home. Read a book. Drink some wine. And work
on you.
Or, you can go out and meet this guy.
E.W.
